Children's Diabetes Service

A new service is available to children and families living with diabetes.  We recognise that families lead busy lives and getting to multiple appointments to support your child’s health needs can be challenging and time consuming.  This paediatric diabetes service is well supported by a professional team who have extensive knowledge and experience in working with children.

What type of service can I expect?

• HbA1C (average blood glucose test) available on the day by finger prick test so your results will be available at the time of your appointment.

• Education and support with use of technology including, Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM), insulin dose calculating devices and insulin pumps.

• Support to transition to insulin pump therapy and ongoing care.

• Age specific nutritional assessment and support with carbohydrate counting for accurate dose titration.

• Opportunity for families to connect with other families managing Diabetes.

• Development of specific care plans to achieve your health and lifestyle goals.

• Additional appointment scheduling with care providers available.

How do I make a booking?

Please call 5622 1500 to arrange your initial consult with Dr Michael Nowotny and to receive the scheduled dates for the Leongatha clinic. A referral from your GP to Dr Michael Nowotny prior to attending is required.

Fees

A gap payment above the Medicare rebate will be charged for the Paediatrician consultation. There are no additional charges for the allied health services at the time of consultation. Any follow up consults with Allied health will be charged at as per regular public health service fee structure.
