Urgent Care Centre - Leongatha Campus

66 Koonwarra Road, Leongatha Victoria

Come and see us for the management of injuries related to emergencies and health care concerns.
The Urgent Care Centre (UCC) at Leongatha is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and staffed by highly qualified nursing professionals. This includes our newly appointed Nurse Practitioners, Rural and Isolated Practice Registered Nurses (RIPRN) and Registered Nurses who are supported by our Medical Staff and virtual Emergency Department specialists for our virtual care model.

What to expect?
When you arrive at the Urgent Care Centre, please press the button to let staff know that you have arrived. You will then be welcomed, assessed and triaged by a nurse.
The staff use an urgency system (known as triage) to ensure that the needs of those who are more time critical are seen first.
You may then be asked questions relating to the following:

  • Previous health problems

  • Current medications

  • Recent overseas travel

  • Allergies

  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding

  • Any other information needed to treat you

Our nurses will assess your condition and will assist you and others to ensure the best decisions are made for you and your health.
For non-urgent conditions our virtual ED model is recommended.

Is there a cost?
UCC Leongatha Campus is a public service so all people who have access to Medicare receive treatment at no cost. Gippsland Southern Health Service is committed to providing medical Practitioners from 8am - 9pm, 7 days per week, where possible.
For life threatening or urgent conditions a doctor is available at all times.

Ambulance Membership
We encourage all community members to hold an Ambulance Victoria membership. If you are referred to another facility for care and require an ambulance transfer you will need your Ambulance Victoria Membership, otherwise there will be a fee invoiced by Ambulance Victoria.

How can you access this service?
You can call (03)5667 5555 to ask about our services or to let us know you are on your way or walk in off the street. We refrain from giving advice about your care over the phone and can’t provide information about waiting times, as this can change very quickly.

Non-urgent medical attention
If medical attention is required for a non-urgent condition, patients are encouraged to contact their GP during business hours. Expert health advice can also be sought 24 hours a day from a registered nurse via the Victorian Nurse-on-Call Service by ringing 1300 60 60 24.

Telehealth
Telehealth is available at GSHS Urgent Care Centres (UCC’s) for after-hour’s medical support of non-urgent presentations. This model of care has been developed with the funding support of Better Care Victoria (BCV), based on a successful project previously developed in rural Victoria.
Telehealth is running at the Leongatha campuses of GSHS. This innovative initiative enables patients to access medical consultations between the hours of 9:00pm and 7:00 am with My Emergency Doctor or at times when a doctor may not be available.
State of the art equipment has been purchased and installed from the funding received from Better Care Victoria (BCV) to enable patients to have a medical consultation via an electronic medium. The consultation is real time, has very clear images and enables the patient to ask questions as if they were in the same room as the doctor. The technology supports the capacity for patients in rural areas to have a consultation without the burden of travel and commence treatment earlier
